- Continuing the harvest - 2007-9-10, 12:04 am

After a few days break last week we were able to continue with the harvest. We picked Riesling and most notably Zweigelt, the latter is now even finished for this year. Since we had to take another rain-caused break this week we are of course very happy about this as well as about the quality of this years Zweigelt grapes. This week we will harvest Blaufränkisch and Merlot which leaves only Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Blanc behind. Both are scheduled for a later date, especially the Pinot Blanc which we plan to harvest as a Spätlese or "Late Harvest" wine. more...

Almost one year after the last harvest it is now time to bottle the first red wines of the 2006 vintage. They had enough time to mature in their casks and are now already very enjoyable to drink. We used the hot days of the past weeks to stay in the cool cellar and bottle the first reds. First impressions prove what we already knew from prefvious tastintgs. The year 2006 turned out to be a great red wine vintage and will receive lots of attention in times to come. more...

Summer - Update - 2007-7-12, 12:22 am

Following a little longer pause we finally have more news from the Sonnenmulde Estate Winery. The reason for this break was simply the time of the year. Early summer is the busiest work period in a winery and thus we spent most of the past weeks out in the vinyards. To catch up a bit we now have a little update regarding the current state of the wine year. more...

Hans Schreiner pruning the vines Winter in our vinyards - 2007-2-22, 10:01 pm

If you have been wondering what we are doing all day long in winter then you have come to the right place. The first task which we have to carry out every new year is pruning the vines. This work consumes all of January and even much of February in many years. Pruning the vinyards means to cut the vines which have grown in the past year so that only short pieces of the shoots remain. This has to be done to ensure vital growth and even more importantly to control the expected crop yield in the upcoming year. Since every bud of a vine has the potential to form one or two grapes we have to intervene and regulate here. more...

Our booth at the Vakanz 2007 in Luxembourg. Picture: Nathalie Daubach Vakanz 2007 Luxembourg - 2007-1-27, 6:37 pm

The Sonnenmulde Estate Winery for the first time in Luxembourg. Sharing a boot together with the Hotel Rose in Steinach am Brenner (Austria) and Voyages Ecker from Luxembourg we participated at the Vakanz 2007 holiday and travel fair. We successfully presented our fine wines to the Luxembourg public which in some cases had never got the chance to know Austrian wines before and we are especially happy about how well they have been received. Just as new for us was our visit at Radio DNR Luxembourg. Many thanks to Petz Sandt who took the chance to invite os to an interview on the spot. This and a short explanation of how a station like Radio DNR works have been a very interesting experience! more...
