Reife Rotweintrauben gleich nach der Ernte
Altough Austrian whites enjoy more international attention than our red wines, both share an equally long tradition. Especially in the Burgenland region red wines have always been cultivated and the area around Lake Neusiedl offers virtually ideal conditions for their growth. Even the very demanding Cabernet Sauvignon fits comfortable in our hot and dry climate and is able to yield phenomenal wines. Naturally we grow other internationally common grapes as well but most notably our traditional varieties like Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent. Wines from these typical Austrian grapes are currently gaining more and more reputation and are already appreciated by wine enthusiasts from all over the world.

Within the last decades Gols evolved from a mostly white wine centric community into the greatest and most successfull red wine producing village of Austria. Therefore it's no suprise that we also grow red grapes in our winery and have a good selection of them in about half of our vinyards. All our reds are aged in big oakwood casks and selected wines get additional Barrique treatment in smaller new barrels. There they have time to develop their full flavour and become ready to drink before they are bottled and presented to the public for the first time. The oakwood supports this ageing and ripening process in a very favourable way and for us this is a very important aspect in the development great red wines where traditional methods can still be the way to go for reaching the highest quality levels.
