The St. Laurent has its roots in France, altough its vine is no common sight
there nowadays. In Austria the propagation is decreasing because the variety
is very prone to May frost and cold temperatures during the blossoming, so
that the yield is uncertain. The St. Laurent ripens in the beginning of
September, but good qualities cannot be brought in before the mid or even
the end of the month. The quality can reach very high levels, even when
compared to common known and widely spread varieties like the Cabernet or
the Merlot.
