Accompanying the great
climate conditions
in the Seewinkel region, a wide range of interesting soil types can be found here.

Gols lies on the edge of a gravel plate
left over by the danube river during the last ice age. Today the Danube flows about 30 kilometers
(19 miles) to the north-east of Gols. So we have dry soils containing lots of gravel covered
with a humus layer of variable thickness. Distributed in patches amongst them, loess with a
layer of topsoil can be found where it has been deposited by wind drift over thousands of
            years.

Between the slight sandy slopes of the gravel plate and Lake Neusiedl
we have rich and more humid soils, often containing considerable amounts of lime. Closer to
the lake the soils contain more and more sand and even tend to be rather salty nearby the
            shores.

This variable soil conditions make it possible for us to grow a wide range of different vine
cultivars on soils that suit them best which is extremely important for the production of top
quality wines. Of course numerous years of experience are necessary to utilize the possibilities
that this soil diversity offers and to benefit from them in the best way possible. Knowing our
vinyards, the vines and the soils for generations we have certainly got it.
