St. Laurent

Landscape
Previous Wine Next Wine

The St. Laurent has its roots in France, altough its vine is no common sight there nowadays. In Austria the propagation is decreasing because the variety is very prone to May frost and cold temperatures during the blossoming, so that the yield is uncertain. The St. Laurent ripens in the beginning of September, but good qualities cannot be brought in before the mid or even the end of the month. The quality can reach very high levels, even when compared to common known and widely spread varieties like the Cabernet or the Merlot.

  blue Label
Colour
 :

Very intense dark red.

Taste
 :

Drunken young it may be tart because of its rich tannins, but after some ageing it becomes velvety, full bodied and the tannins interact gently with the wine.

Suits to
 :

An ideal companion for a meal, especially for a banquet including dark meat.
