A bottle of Sämling

Sämling 2015 in a semi-sweet style. Something new from the Sonnenmulde Winery? Well it is, but not completely - because we  have valued Sämling grapes highly for a long time.

For many years the Sämling, or Scheurebe as it is also known, has held a very special place in our wine cellar. Its pronounced aromatic grapes are ideally suited for making noble-sweet dessert wines like Icewine or Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA). But why not try it a little less sweet? A round semi-sweet wine style from fully-ripened grapes could be great too.

That is just our 2015 Sämling. The last time we made a wine like this was in the 1990ies. Since then semi-sweet Pinot Blanc wines took this spot in our wine cellar but this year we decided differently. It was supposed to be a Sämling again and it turned out great. The wine is sweet enough for aromatic, spicy food or light-fruity desserts but not yet too sweet for a glass or two of simple enjoyment. Just try it and see for yourself.
