The growth of the vinyards

Current News
2010-6-17, 11:39 am

In early summer so many things are happening concurrently that there is almost no time to update our website. A day of rain helps in this case to bring everything up to current again. So finally some new news from the Sonnenmulde Estate Winery

The vines are growing like crazy right now, you could almost watch them at it. They can easily gain more than 5 cm (2 inches) a day and 10 cm (5 inches) are not unheard of. Following the long cool spring we had very hot weather last week, reaching more than 35° Celsius (95 F), just in the right time for grape blossoming. Now the flowers quickly develop into young grapes, reaching pea-size in only a few weeks if there is enough water and sun. We had rain in the last two days, so let's see how much sunshine we'll get.

Our work is now closely guided by the vines growth. Just as they grow we have to manually guide them into the trellising system, aerate the grape zone by removing single leafs or shoots and much, much more. In the next few days we will even have to cut the vines tips just above the topmost trellising wire for the first time this year.

As our time permits we will of course always post news to our website. And don't forget, for the quick update inbetween there are also our Twitter & Facebook feeds. Have a look!
